5-HTP and SSRI antidepressant: interaction, severity and spacing
5-HTP and SSRI antidepressant interact because 5-HTP is a direct serotonin precursor. Combined with a reuptake inhibitor it can drive serotonin excess. Take them with care. Severe risk.

Mechanism
5-HTP is a direct serotonin precursor. Combined with a reuptake inhibitor it can drive serotonin excess.
What to do
Avoid combining without medical supervision. Do not add 5-HTP to an SSRI on your own.
How to fit both into one day
5-HTP
pre-bedflexible
Take 5-HTP before bed. Never combine with an SSRI or with tryptophan because the serotonin effect is additive.
Putting 5-HTP in the pre-bed and SSRI antidepressant in the evening satisfies the 0-hour separation without disrupting either one's absorption window.
