CoQ10 (ubiquinol) and Vitamin E (mixed tocopherols): interaction, severity and spacing
CoQ10 (ubiquinol) and Vitamin E (mixed tocopherols) interact because both are lipid-phase antioxidants that use the same chylomicron absorption route, so they compete slightly for the same uptake capacity. Take them with care. Mild risk.
The interaction in detail
| Pair | CoQ10 (ubiquinol) and Vitamin E (mixed tocopherols) |
|---|---|
| Type | Nutrient interaction |
| Severity | Mild |
| Required spacing | None specified |
| Onset | At the time of dosing |
Mechanism
Both are lipid-phase antioxidants that use the same chylomicron absorption route, so they compete slightly for the same uptake capacity.
What to do
No separation needed. Taking them together with fat is acceptable and common in cardiac formulas.
How to fit both into one day
CoQ10 is lipophilic and mildly energising. Take it with the fattiest meal, ideally earlier in the day. It can reduce warfarin effect structurally.
Vitamin E needs dietary fat for absorption and works with selenium. Keep it under 400 IU if you take an anticoagulant.
Putting CoQ10 (ubiquinol) in the morning and Vitamin E (mixed tocopherols) in the midday satisfies the 0-hour separation without disrupting either one's absorption window.
